There are two ways to the top of the highest summit of the southern Front Range of the Rocky Mountains in North America, car or the cog railway. Can't speak to the cog railway but driving is definitely thrilling. Especially the stretches with extreme drop-offs with no guard rail.
I have journeyed to the top a few times before, but our son Alex hasn't had the experience, so we decided to make the journey. Rain was in the forecast, so we went directly to the top and didn't encounter any rain until we were just leaving the park.
Even though we just recently spent time at 9000+ feet the altitude impact on us was immediate. Oxygen is 43% of what it is at sea level and you could really feel it after just a short time.
The views on the way up and at the stop are stunning!
